CSEET, the Company Secretary Executive Entrance Test of the ICSI, was restructured from the June 2026 session. It is now four papers of 100 marks each, on four days, at exam centres: three written (subjective) papers and one OMR paper. This is the syllabus for the February 2027 session, which runs from 1 to 4 February 2027, and for later sessions until ICSI changes it. Everything here is from ICSI's syllabus for the restructured CSEET, its announcement of 10 April 2026, its FAQ and the February 2027 time table, checked on 26 October 2026. If you studied from material for the old remote-proctored CSEET, check it against this list: the test is not the same.

  • To pass: at least 40% in each paper and 50% in the aggregate, in one sitting. Marks are not carried forward.
  • Language: ICSI publishes the restructured CSEET's papers, study material and sample papers in English only.

Paper 1: Business Communication (100 marks, subjective)

  • Essentials of good English: grammar, vocabulary, idioms, sentence correction, comprehension and summary
  • Communication: the process, networks, listening, barriers, etiquette, and digital and social media
  • Business correspondence: letters, reports, office orders, circulars, memos, e-mail, notices, agenda and minutes
  • Common business terminology

In June 2026 the paper had eight questions, of which six were to be answered.

Paper 2: Fundamentals of Accounting (100 marks, subjective)

  • Accounting concepts, principles and policies
  • Journal, subsidiary books, ledger, trial balance and rectification of errors
  • Bank reconciliation statement
  • Depreciation and amortisation
  • Final accounts of sole proprietors
  • Partnership and LLP accounts, including goodwill
  • Issue, forfeiture and reissue of shares; redemption of preference shares and debentures
  • Accounts of not-for-profit organisations

Answers are written with working notes and marked by examiners. In June 2026, eight questions were set and six were to be answered.

Paper 3: Economic and Business Environment (100 marks, subjective)

Part A, Economics (50 marks): demand, supply and forms of market; national income; the Union Budget and fiscal deficit; Indian financial markets and institutions; the Indian economy and balance of payments.

Part B, Business Environment (50 marks): entrepreneurship; the business environment and key institutions (NITI Aayog, MCA, SEBI, RBI, IBBI, CCI, NCLT, NCLAT); global organisations; environmental governance; AI and business; corporate governance.

Paper 4: Business Laws and Management (100 marks, OMR)

ICSI's two sample papers and the June 2026 paper each had 100 one-mark questions with four options, all compulsory:

Part Questions Marks Topics
A: Business Laws 1 to 60 60 Introduction to law (sources, legal terms and maxims, citations, new legislation); elements of company law; law of contracts, including indemnity, guarantee, bailment, pledge and agency; partnership and LLP; sale of goods; negotiable instruments
B: Business Management 61 to 100 40 Introduction to management and management styles; functions of management (planning, organising, staffing, directing, coordinating, reporting, budgeting); Fayol's principles and Taylor's scientific management; management knowledge for company secretaries, with small cases

There is no negative marking, so answer every question. A later paper could set a different number of questions; ICSI's announcement fixes only the marks and time.

A plan for the weeks to 1 February 2027

About 14 weeks remain from late October. One way to divide them:

  1. Weeks 1 to 4: Accounting and Business Laws, the two papers with the most new concepts for a Class 12 student. Write out one accounting question by hand every day.
  2. Weeks 5 to 8: Economics and Business Environment. Make one-page notes per institution and per economic concept; Paper 3 answers reward clear definitions.
  3. Weeks 9 to 11: Business Communication: write one letter, memo or set of minutes a day, and time it.
  4. Weeks 12 to 14: full papers at the real times. Take the Paper 4 CSEET mock test under two hours, and write one three-hour subjective paper a week. Analyse each mock by topic.

Because the pass rule needs 40% in each paper, a plan that drops one paper is risky: a strong total cannot rescue a paper under 40.
